Please be aware that the proposal is a "working plan," with some details to be further researched, shared with the community and refined based on community feedback and what we learn as we develop our knowledge and understanding of what can and should be done to restore the health of the Pond.

Please review the information provided here. Send us your thoughts by email; leave a comment on the Wellesley Friends of the Pond Facebook page or phone one of the contacts listed on our contacts page.  We need and welcome your input.

WELLESLEY POND RESTORATION PROJECT

The project is a collaboration between Wellesley Friends of the Pond, Township of Wellesley and the Grand River Conservation Authority. Together, we have worked to develop a feasible plan that is supported by the community and addresses what needs to be done to restore the pond to a more sustainable ecosystem.

ACTIVITIES

Making A Difference

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

WDPS Grade 3's visited the pond as part of their science program. The children researched some of the trees and native plants that were planted in 2017. They created name plates with some information about the plants. All of the plants and trees are native species, pollinator friendly and good choices for the garden. Visit the Pond to learn more.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES

In May 2018, Wellesley Home Hardware, Wellesley Township Fall Fair, Wellesley and District Lions Club and Wellesley Horticultural sponsored a fish fry in support of the Pond Restoration Project. With the help of many volunteers, 400 tickets were sold and $5343 was raised. This project will require much more financial and volunteer support. Please help in any way you can.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

There are many ways volunteers may contribute to the project. So far, many people have participated in the development of our working plan. Volunteers have also planted the trees in the park below the dam, planted and maintained the Butterfly Garden and  did some clean up work along the shoreline. Watch our Facebook page and website for news about upcoming opportunities to participate in the project.

CARE FOR OUR ENVIRONEMNT

Our goals are to improve the pond water quality and habitat. Doing this will have positive effects on our environment, creating more habitat for wildlife, more species diversity and improved downstream water quality. This is a sustainable approach that will ensure the long term health and beauty of the Pond.
